In an attempt to show that everything you read in the media about video games isn't all bad, a group of gamers will host a Rock Band marathon and hope to get through 1,000 consecutive songs to benefit Child's Play, the Penny Arcade charity that donates toys and games to children's hospitals.
The event, scheduled for Raleigh, NC, on Nov. 27, will begin at 9 a.m. and feature six people tryin gto get through 1,000 songs. There will be three people playing at all times on guitar, drums and vocals, and a fourth will chat live online with people monitoring the event through a Ustream broadcast on the Clan of the Gray Wolf website.
According to the press release, the event coordinators hope to emphasize the positive contributions that gamers can make to a community:
"After seeing the success of other game marathons online, we felt we could do something similar to help out,” said Joey DeSena, event co-coordinator. "And we think that doing something like this would entertain people enough to donate. We can accomplish much more for the charity together in this way than any of us could do alone."
People interested in making donations can begin today at the Clan of the Gray Wolf site. Donations will continue through Dec. 6.
