Depending on your focus and motivation, gaining achievements can be an easy thing, a rewarding thing or one of the most frustratingly annoying experiences of being a gamer. You could also be one of the rare gamer types that plays games purely for fun without caring about achievements at all! I don't personally know anyone like that but I'm sure they're out there... somewhere.
So after posting the "You were killed by Death" article yesterday, I thought it would be fun to expand this a little and focus on what it is that gamers find the most rewarding about clocking up achievements. Is it the true sense of achievement one gets from completing something or is it purely because of the online kudos one can acquire after unlocking as many achievements as humanly possible?
And although I am by no means a great achiever when it comes to unlocks, I do find some of the achievements in online games amusing and sometimes pretty cool. What are some of the best or worst game achievements you've seen or unlocked yourself?
Admittedly "You were killed by Death" isn't an achievement in Battlefield Bad Company 2 but I was also hit with "You were killed by Road" which I managed to score yesterday along with an "Effectus" Insignia award for Distinguished Marksman in combat. Somehow it just doesn't have the same ring to it as "You were killed by Death." And if I ever decide to play an Engineer, I've already got my sights set on achieving what I think is one of the coolest achievements in the game - "The Dentist: Get a Headshot with a Repair Tool!"
