Are you subscribed to the PlayStation Plus plan?

August 24, 2010

PlayStation gamers are probably well aware of what the PlayStation Plus subscription offers but for those gamers (like myself) who weren't aware that Playstation were offering this new service, here's a little bit of info for you.

PlayStation Plus offers "an additional one or two years of coverage on top of their one year limited manufacturer’s warranty. Some of the plan benefits include free shipping, no hidden fees or deductibles and utilization of OEM parts and service technicians".

This all seems fairly straight-forward but now the PlayStation Plus service is being offered at a discounted rate according to the official blog. The discounted service will offer: Read More

The PlayStation 3 is New Zealand's Official Game Console?

August 2, 2010

We recently published an article about the copycat situation involving Kevin Butler and a New Zealand television station. Well as it turns out, all's well that ends well! The follow-up to this story is that Kevin Butler has received a very sincere and prompt apology from the television station with a care package that included Milo, Marmite and a plaque signifying that the PlayStation 3 is the official game console of Aotearoa (which means New Zealand).

Hailing from New Zealand, you could see why this is very much of interest to me because I'm not sure SoE New Zealand know about it yet and I'm pretty sure most NZ gamers don't either. Oh well, I guess it's OK to say it if it's in the interest of mending bridges...  Read More

Sony's Kevin Butler doesn't like copycats!

July 22, 2010

Kevin Butler, VP of International Diplomacy at Sony Computer Entertainment America, has responded via his blog regarding the issue of copycat video clips showing up on TV3, one of New Zealand's primary television stations.

The image used for this post above is the original PlayStation 3 YouTube clip while TV3 created their own clip which you can view here. Mr. Butler had this to say about the situation from his blog: Read More

God of War Movie trailer

July 18, 2010

I've seen quite a few fan-made video clips featuring storylines taken from popular games and I have to admit, some of them are damn cool. This God of War parody comes from video game blog Gamer Vision. The website has featured various parodies before but this is the first one I've seen.

The website details the full cast and crew involved in the project but here's a snippet of the synopsis for you: Read More

LittleBigPlanet goes Marvel

July 4, 2010

Marvel announced more than a year ago that Marvel characters would be appearing in LittleBigPlanet. They've finally revealed what the Dare Devil Marvel character will look like in the game via their website. I have mixed feelings about adding extra content to a game like this. On the one hand it's pretty cool to be able to see content from other areas being introduced but at the same time, it seems almost like they're stretching for ideas to spice up what most people think is already a great game. It's now commonplace to see content from other games/movies being added to games, now they're adding comic book characters? What's next?

3.40 firmware update for the PS3

June 29, 2010

Sony's latest firmware update 3.40 went live last night and you can read all about the various details of what this major update does for your PS3 all over the place. But what does it really do for PS3 users? And if you consider yourself a PS3 gamer, how will this update make gaming easier for you?

Well, there is Facebook. Now, I'm not a Faceslapper so I couldn't give a flying doo-doo about Facebook integration for my PS3. But I bet there are loads of gamers out there that do, right? I'd love to know how Facebook integration on the PS3 (or any game console for that matter) will make gaming better? I mean, you've already got a friends list for your PSN so why would you need Facebook? That said, the integration with Picasa means that you can do alot with images stored on your hard drive that you couldn't before. Read More

What I Learned From E3: Sony

June 15, 2010

Sony may not have wowed the fanboys as much as Nintendo did but the games looked good and a ten minute monologue from Kevin Butler certainly made the E3 presser entertaining to watch. One of the things I gleaned from the event was that PlayStation motion sensing product, Move seems to be more intuitive than the WiiMote. Watching a demonstration of the game Sorcery and Tiger Woods at play was pretty impressive. Still Sony didn't give all that many demonstrations using Move; for example, when Little Big Planet 2 was shown they used the vanilla PS3 controller.

I also learned that Sony is investing a lot in 3D with many games shipping with regular HD games and 3D games shipping together on one Blu-Ray discs. Right now 3D seems like a luxury for people that have just barely bought an HD television. For those techno-savvy consumers who don't mind wearing glasses while playing a game or watching a movie, you'll probably be in heaven.. Read More

Will you use the PS3's Eagle Eye?

June 9, 2010

I've often said that I'm not really a PS3 fangirl. I own one and I love my PS3's Blu-ray capabilities and I like how alot of the games look in high def. Even though (technically) the Sony PS2 was my very *first* console, I play alot more on the Xbox 360 and PC than I do the PS3. But if you were given the option to have keyboard and mouse support on your PS3, would that make you play on it more?

This is a particularly relevant question, especially for PC gamers who often complain about the lack of control they have using console controllers as opposed to Kb+m. With the 'Eagle Eye' converter from PenguinUnited, it's possible to adapt alot of the control mechanics gamers use when playing on their PC. There's nothing like proof in the pudding and I'd love to demo one just to have a more objective perspective on this. Read More

Killzone 3 Teaser Trailer

June 3, 2010

Killzone is one shooter on the PS3 that I've been a fan of ever since I played the first one. In fact, I don't think I've ever liked a shooter on the PS3 as much as Killzone. I tried Haze <yawn> and MAG <pass> and Killzone seems to be the only shooter that had a decent storyline. Nevertheless, this teaser doesn't show alot but it shows enough and the third instalment of KZ looks like it's gonna be awesome!

Any PS3 fans out there? Will you be buying this when it comes out? I know I will :)

Will you be making the 'Move' with Sony?

March 11, 2010

With the GDC in full swing, the news about Sony's new motion controller simply named 'Move' is doing the rounds online. So it's time for the important questions that only gamers can answer. Afterall, we are the target audience and will ultimately be the consumers buying this product.

I've read a few things about the new motion controller but for those of you who haven't heard or read anything yet, here's a quick rundown for you:

The controller's button layout includes a shoulder button, start, select, and the usual four PlayStation action buttons (eg. X and O). It features vibrating Dual Shock, and its 3D position and orientation tracking sensors can even pick up rotation in your wrists.

So basically, it's Sony's version of a product that is likely to fall in the same market as the Nintendo Wii but is also looking like it could be the Sony contender against Microsoft's 'Project Natal'. Read More
