January 2, 2009

alcopopAlthough embattled governor Rod Blagojevich has more pressing things on his mind at the moment than attacking violent videogames, the state of Illinois has moved ahead anyway, enacting new legislation involving videogames.

As part of a slew of new laws designed to tackle alcohol abuse and drunk driving in the mid-western state, SB2472 (which Blagojevich signed) bans advertisements and displays of 'alcopop' beverages and flavored malt liquors from videogames. The new law, which took effect on Thursday also applies to billboards within 500 feet of a public school and live performances where the audience is primarily made up of children.
